San Pedro Creek Culture Park Gatehouses

Owner
Bexar County

Location
San Antonio, Texas

The San Pedro Creek Culture Park is a revolutionary project for San Antonio, revitalizing the west side of downtown in much the same way that work along the San Antonio River has triggered a boom of redevelopment in River North.  Work5hop helped to develop design concepts for the walkways, bridges, and structures along phases 1.3 and 2.0 of the creek and then completed design and documentation for the gatehouse at Nueva Street and the gatehouse and restrooms at South Alamo Street.

Work5hop’s designs integrate the fluid nature of the greenway design with the history and built fabric of downtown.  The Nueva Street gatehouse features a custom-designed aluminum screen with a CNC-cut pattern showing a map of historic Laredito, the name for the neighborhood where the project was located which was absorbed into downtown.  The South Alamo complex forms a gateway to the greenway and trails; it acts as a street-level signpost and gathering place for walkers and bikers.
